How to Leverage Impact Investing in a Booming Industry Projected to
Reach $24 Billion by 2030
Capital is required for the nascent industrial hemp industry to realize its potential as a major producer and manufacturer of biobased feedstocks for a regenerative, circular and balanced ecosystem that doesn't bear the costs and burdens resulting from overuse of depleting natural resources. Startup and early stage industrial hemp processors and product manufacturers have limited access to bank financing and many lack the internal resources or knowledge to originate and execute a plan for raising private capital from angel investors, venture capital, or crowdfunding.

"With the advancement and adaptation of fitting technology, exploitation of the entire physical, chemical and morphological characteristics of hemp can better contribute to a clean, healthy, and sustainable planet." National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Defined as the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance, industrial hemp exemplifies the meaning of sustainability with its short, 90 to 120 day growing season. Once it is harvested, farmers deliver their hemp grain and bales to area processors who then supply product manufacturers with bio-based feedstock as an alternative to petro-based feedstock. Processing industrial hemp for its bast and hurd fibers and grain opens the doorway to sustainable consumer and industrial goods!
From: bioSolutions Initiatives': "Seeing the U.S. Industrial Hemp Opportunity"
bioSolutions Initiatives released a publicly available research report titled "Seeing The U.S. Industrial Hemp Opportunity" in 2023. The author, Pierre Berard, an Impact Investor, reflects that: "Natural fibers were relegated to second fiddle with the advent of the petrochemical industry, which produced incredible innovations that now permeate our daily lives: synthetic textiles, Teflon, plastic, and so on.
The trend is reversing. Industries are rediscovering or, in some cases, pioneering the use of natural fibers for their specific attributes (durability, light weight, resistance, etc.) and because the sustainability imperative appears to no longer be an option. Hemp is one such fiber, the least explored, and probably the one with the strongest potential. But hemp is not only a fiber; it is also a grain with high nutritional properties. An additional blessing of hemp is that it qualifies as a regenerative plant: it is good for soil health and water retention and is one of the highest CO2 sequestering plants we can grow at scale."

The U.S. has approximately 396 million acres of cropland. Because of its many and varied uses, when compared to cannabis and CBD, industrial hemp grown for grain and/or fiber has the opportunity to deliver the largest economic impact for farmers and rural communities while also providing the largest positive environmental impact.
Efficiency dictates hemp processing occurs near hemp fields, creating rural jobs in farming, transportation, processing and manufacturing, resulting in local and regional supply chains.
Bill Brehmer - President and Founder
Bill is a 4th generation South Dakota farm owner who received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota. He has over 20 years experience working with private companies in the Dallas, TX area performing research, analysis, financial modeling, due diligence and private capital raises predominantly in the oil and gas industry. Bill turned his focus to the hemp industry in 2020. With South Dakota legalizing hemp for the 2021 growing season, he obtained a grower's license and planted a hemp test crop on the Brehmer Family Farm near Hoven, SD. Joining the SD Industrial Hemp Association, Bill became active in promoting the development of the all-new hemp industry. He quickly realized that for the industry to begin meeting and exceeding growth expectations, access to capital would be required.
